Light of Hope Backpack Program 2026

We’re kicking off the Light of Hope Backpack Program—an effort focused on supporting students, during Summer School, who rely on school meals during the week but may go without on the weekends. We are currently gathering donations to help provide kid-friendly food that students can take home, ensuring they have something to eat beyond the classroom. Just as in the past we are working with local schools to discuss the students needs. Our care extends beyond the classroom doors.

Your support now helps us begin building and preparing these backpacks so we’re ready to serve students during the month of June. Together, we can help bring comfort, stability, and hope into the homes of children in our community—one backpack at a time.

December 2025

Be the Light Christmas Meal Drive is complete!

This year, with the addition of families from United Township, in Illinois, and Hayes and Jackson Elementary Schools, in Davenport, Iowa, our family total rose from 93, last year, to 132.  We were able to provide meat, sides, bread, milk, margarine, potatoes and desserts to each of these families.

Because of this growth, we are going to have to find a new distribution location on the Illinois side, for 2026.  If you are aware of a location that we could utilize during the last two to three weeks of December, preferably with a cooler, please let us know!

Partnership

The Matthew 25:35 Foundation is now in partnership with the Davenport Community School District.  This Christmas we will be serving families from Hayes and Jackson Elementary Schools.  We have already met with staff from both schools and the school district and plans are in motion.

These schools will be in addition to the families we already serve at George O Barr and Eagle Ridge Elementary Schools, in Silvis, as well as families from United Township, in Silvis, and Westside Daycare, in Davenport.

New Director of Community Fundraising

9/24/2025

Please help us welcome Abbi Brown to the Matthew 25:35 Foundation.  She was offered and has accepted the position of Director of Community Fundraising.

Abbi is very familiar with the QCA, having moved here while in Middle school and later attending UTHS.  After High School, Abbi furthered her education and worked in healthcare for 13 years, before devoting herself to raising her four children.  Abbi and her husband have been married for six years and have been together for over 10.

Abbi is very involved in her Children's school, working with the PTA and its various programs and fundraisers.  She is also co-founder of the only AHG (American Heritage Girls) troop in the Quad Cities (AHG Troop IA 0267)  and has organized and run multiple fundraisers for the group.  Abbi worked with us during our 2024 Be the Light Christmas Meal Drive and our 2025 Light of Hope Backpack Program,  and was the main source of our donation requests.
Seeing her energy, passion for  the foundation's causes, and willingness to get out there, undaunted, to solicit support for the events, it only made sense that she should be officially brought on board and her efforts officially acknowledged.

Thank you Abbi for your drive and efforts.  We look forward to having you on the team!

Speaking to the Davenport Noon Optimist Club

 9/26/2025

Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking to the Davenport Noon Optimist Club about the Matthew 25:35 Foundation.  True to their organization and creed, they were warm, welcoming, encouraging and I greatly enjoyed my time with them.

I want to give a special "thank you" to Jeff Waller, as he was my original point of contact for our donation request, and Brian Monroe, who organized our visit.

We very much appreciate the opportunity to share with them what we have done and are currently doing.

If you have a desire to see positive change in our community, and have a desire to be a part of that change, I strongly suggest that you check them out.
They have a Facebook page and their website is https://www.davenportnoonoptimists.com/
